The Peacock
As part of my MA in Children’s Publishing, I illustrated The Peacock, a reimagined version of an Aesop’s Fable. This project involved selecting a classic tale and infusing it with elements from Indian folklore and traditional art. I chose The Peacock for its themes of envy and self-acceptance, which resonate across cultures.

Recognising the similarities between Aesop’s moral storytelling and the Panchatantra tales, I found a natural creative direction for the project. To visually bridge these traditions in storytelling, I drew inspiration from Indian folk art, incorporating its intricate patterns and rich mark-making techniques.

The illustrations were rendered in black and white, emphasising the traditional aesthetic and highlighting the depth of the storytelling through textures and detailed illustrations.
